Organisation of sports events

Sports competitions both indoors and outdoors take place in an epidemiologically safe environment:
  1. The competition is included in the competition calendar of the sports federation recognized in accordance with the Sports Law of the respective sport, which is published on its website (indicating the name, venue and time of the competition, as well as the organizer of the competition).
  2. Only persons who have a vaccination or recovery certificate participate in the competition and are present at the venue.
  3. Students who have taken a Covid-19 test as part of a screening at an educational institution.
  4. Preschool children may participate in the competition if the antigen self-test has been performed in the presence of an authorized person and parents before the competition, and it is negative.
  5. Spectators may attend sports competitions if they have a vaccination or recovery certificate and requirements regarding the organising of public events are observed (holding public events only in an epidemiologically safe environment, with additional requirements for the number of visitors in separated sectors, personalized seating, flow management, etc.). Spectators may get up during the competition (also during breaks), they can only leave their seats to visit the toilet.
  6. A distance of two meters is observed, and mouth and nose covering is used (except for athletes during sports competitions).
  7. Athletes of one team (also in individual sports) or sports staff servicing athletes do not have physical contact with athletes of other teams or sports staff servicing other athletes (except for athletes during sports competitions).
  8. Occupancy in changing rooms does not exceed 25%
  9. Awarding in person only takes place individually.
  10. Restrictions on working hours and the above-mentioned conditions regarding distance, masks, occupancy in changing rooms, etc., does not apply to the competitions of the highest leagues of the Team sports games, if the title of Latvian champion for adults is awarded there.
International sports events, both indoors and outdoors, may also take place in an epidemiologically semi-safe environment:
  1. Full separation of all persons involved in the organization and implementation of events from those not involved in the organization and implementation of events shall be ensured.
  2. The requirement to follow the "bubble format" also applies to Latvian athletes, as well as any person from Latvia involved in the organization and running of the competition.
  3. There are no restrictions on working hours and conditions in terms of space, occupancy in changing rooms, etc.
  4. Spectators may attend international sporting events if they have a vaccination or recovery certificate and requirements regarding the organising of public events are observed (holding public events only in an epidemiologically safe environment, additionally ensuring requirements regarding the use of face masks, number of visitors in separated sectors, personalized seating, flow management, separation in the time and space of the visitors with children (from the age of 12 present a test certificate or a laboratory certificate of a negative screening test performed within the last 72 hours), etc.). Spectators may get up during the competition (also during breaks), they can only leave their seats to visit the toilet.
  5. Athletes and sports employees, as well as representatives of international sports organisations whose arrival to the territory of the Republic of Latvia is related to participation in an international sports event organised by a sports federation or its member in accordance with the Sports Law as accredited persons, must comply with the requirements stipulated in Paragraph 141 of Cabinet Regulation No. 662 adopted 28 September 2021 "Epidemiological Safety Measures for the Containment of the Spread of Covid-19 Infection”.

Exceptions apply to the training of the following high-end athletes:

  • Latvian national team (including youth and junior) athletes;
  • Latvian Olympic team and Latvian Paralympic team athletes;
  • Athletes of teams of international and higher leagues of team sports (providing that they award a title of Latvian champion in the adult category);
  • Students of Murjani Sports Gymnasium and high-class athlete training centres.
  1. Athletes' training takes place both indoors and outdoors in an epidemiologically safe environment.
  2. They are not subject to the conditions regarding the area to be provided for one person, the size of the groups, the occupancy in the changing rooms, etc.
